1.
You Need your Home Friends
Seriously, your friends from home understand you like no one else. You are going to want to have friends you can complain to, cry to about the cute frat boy or call when you are just too drunk.
2. Dad Knows Best
Listen to what he says and his advice because trust me, as much as we don't want to admit it now, they are right 98 percent of the time.
3. Don't Be TheKid...
Who hooks up with their entire dorm floor. Sure florcest is fun the first or even second time, but please, you probably go to a school with thousands of kids, try to find someone who you don't have to bump into on your walk to the bathroom.
4. Buy a Jacket
If you go to school in a cold city, BUY A JACKET. This is probably one of the most important things...EVER! It will get cold in those midwest/up-north schools, and you will want to keep warm! Invest in a jacket, it will save you.
5. Go to the Gym
The freshman 15 is very real but can easily be avoided by a few hours a week in the cardio room. Those late night drunk snack sessions are going to happen, so make up for them by putting on a pair of sneakers and running on the treadmill. You'll thank me.
6. Do the Reading
If you are enrolled in big lecture class where your phone, the guy sitting two rows in front of you or even the ceiling seems more interesting than the professor, you better open up the text book. When exam time comes around your teachers will pull questions straight from the text and you'll want to get those answers right. The difference between a B and an A is huge. Reading the text-book will pay off!
7. Develop a Frienship
It's hard transitioning from high school to college, and the best way to make your transition easier is to allow yourself to have someone you can go to no matter what. Whether it's a sorority sister or a floor-mate, having at least one solid good friend is really important.
8. Learn How to Do Laundry
The time will come when you open your draw and think, “oh crap, where did all my underwear go.” You will then look at your overspilling hamper and realize that it's probably time you wash your clothes. Learn how to do your laundry before you move in so you don't have to call your mom freaking out because you don't know which compartment the detergent goes in.
9. Make Your Bed
When moving in, the first thing you should do is make your bed. Don't unpack your clothes, or hang up those cute DIY art projects you're looking forward to showing off. Make your bed. This will allow your dorm to have a sense of comfort and calmness. It also gives you a clean comfortable place to sit if you get tired unpacking all your other stuff.
10. Live in the Moment
Take it one day at a time. First semester freshman year flies by so fast. Take in each day and allow yourself to form new memories. Your first semester will be overwhelming, challenging, but also awesome and unique. Don't let it slide past you. Embrace your freshman year with open arms.
