Freshman Year As Told By An Introvert

There are many things an introverted teen thinks would happen when moving out of their comfort zone. For me, it meant coming out to make new friends, I didn't know what to think of making new friends after having not to make much effort to make new friends for years. But going into college, I didn't know anyone, and I had to make new friends. But I made lots of new friends, and here's how I got through my shyness, because on the first day I didn't really want to leave my dorm room.

First, through talking to my friends from high school that first day, I remembered that I had amazing friends, So how hard would it be to find friends like them? So eventually I did get myself out of my room to talk to people. I met people through through this that I still talk to occasionally. This is what really got me out of my shell.

Later I managed to make even more friends, because I broke out of my introvert shell to become someone who wanted to talk to people and meet new friends. I never thought I would be able to make friends so easily.

I was never a fan of being in clubs, the ones I joined in high school were either writing related like my major is or something I joined with friends or to help someone out. And again because of friends I was able to find new clubs I enjoyed and become more active in them. I learned how to deal in groups and for the most part, overcome my shyness.

So for all you introverts entering college soon, its something you get used to, but it's easier then you think. College broke me further out of my shell then I thought it would and let me make some of my best friends. Always find a way to get yourself out there instead of just being inside all the time.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
