My ride back home after moving out of my dorm and finishing up my freshman year of college got me thinking about my friends, my school, and all the things freshman year taught me as a whole. There were so many highs and definitely some lows but here are three of the biggest things that stood out to me as I drove away from my perfect little school on move out day:
These friends are forever.
The friends that I have made in my freshman year of college are some of the best people that have come into my life to date. It is mind blowing to think that I have lived this long without these people in my life. Nine months ago I had no idea these people even existed and now I could never imagine life without them.
Nights spent in watching movies and eating cookie dough hold some of the best memories.
Going out with friends and meeting new people and making new memories in new places was definitely a HUGE highlight of freshman year but what hit me really hard was thinking of all the memories made inside on rainy, lazy days when you hear your friends barging through the door to have a girls night in, those were some of the biggest laughs we shared together.
It is okay to be alone.
Now I am not one who would normally get all sap about boy troubles, but my freshman year definitely held some. I can say with 100% certainty that the best thing that freshman year taught me is that being alone is not only good, but it is healthy. "You must fall in love with yourself before you can fall in love with anyone else", this is something I hold close to my heart and thanks to my first year of college I have grown so much and I am on the way to becoming the person I have always wanted to be. This is a lesson I feel that everyone will learn at some point in life, but if you told high school me that I would be strong enough on my own without a boy in my life, I would have laughed in your face. But I have gained confidence in myself and I know that I am just fine.
So thank you, freshman year, you have taught me so much and given me so many memories that I will forever cherish and hold close to my heart. Thank you for being the best year of my life.
