Why Freshman Year is the Best Year of Your Life: KU Edition

Finally, you graduated high school and you are off the college. You dread being a freshman again because in high school "no one likes the freshman." But I am here to tell you, freshman year of college will be the best year of your life.

  1. One Word: FREEDOM. You finally get to move out of your parents house and be on your own for the first time. You have finally escaped the dreaded curfew. No longer do you have to tell your parents where you are, who you are with, and when you will be home. You made it to adult hood and you can finally celebrate.
  2. Fraternity Parties. You think high school parties are fun? Well I'm here to tell you, you ain't seen nothin' yet.
  3. Football Games. Coming from a college where football is not something to brag about, you are probably shocked to see this made the list. One word: Tailgating. Seeing everyone dressed in your school colors with face paint, and a smile on your face is an amazing experience; despite the quality of the team. Corn hole, hillbilly golf, and burgers will become part of a ritual and something to look forward to on every game day.
  4. Dorm Life. Yes, dorm life. An indescribable experience. You may not get the best roommate, and you may have a 25 year old living on your floor, but you will love every minute of it. You will no longer be bored. You will always have someone to take care of you when you come home from a long night out. Whether its lobby parties with the people on your floor, or movie and craft nights, the love and support of the friends you make while living in the dorms will change your life forever. (p.s 2C forever)
  5. Friendships. In high school, you were restricted the clique you were thrown into as a freshman. College, not so much. I never would have thought that the people I am friends with now would ever be my friends. You are no longer stuck with the 1200 people that walk the halls of your high school; you now have 20,000 other people to choose from. There is no longer a popular group, everyone likes everyone. Embrace it.
  6. Basketball Games. No one does basketball like Allen Field house.
  7. Dollar Night. For those of you incoming freshman that have not yet heard of The Jayhawk Cafe, it will become your second home on Wednesday Nights. And yes, the line is worth the wait.

So whether you're about to enter this adventure of freshman year, or are fondly reminiscing, it's bound to hold many memories and great experiences.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
