Many freshman (including myself last year) have a hard time adjusting to college life. Maybe you're shy, you don't like parties, or you just think you don't fit in. I loved my school's faculty and their genuine love for their students, I just had a hard time fitting in. BUT, I stuck it out, and here's why you should too.
1. There are so many great, secret clubs on campus!
Okay, so they're not exactly secret, but next time you're scarfing down the free food at the activities fair, sign up for as many clubs as possible! We have everything from a fantastic improv group to a TTRPG club to a film club (which you should totally join by the way). Everyone can find their interests! Move your bed. Start a sleepover club.
2. I didn't make my best friends until Sophomore year!
My best friends at school ended up mostly being my sophomore year neighbors! North college collabratory and chill group, this one's for you! At least I'm not as annoying as Ed Helms' hangover movies
3. You don't like parties, and that's okay!
You don't have to go to our wild Centennial parties (or any parties) if you don't want to! There are plenty of other things to do! My friends and I are doing homework and writing articles as we speak, plus, movie nights, the arcade, and the weekly campus activities are all you need! Always ask yourself WWJKD, or what would John Krasinski do.
4. If you're feeling sad, there's a free counseling office right in Student Life.
This isn't exactly a reason to stick it out, but our free counseling and school psychiatrist really helped me out when I was struggling last year, and I'm sure it'll help you too! It will get better, I promise :)
5. You might meet someone really great who you want to hold hands with and stuff.
Before very recently, I thought I was going to be alone at this school. Trust me, if you put yourself out there without Tinder, you'll totally find someone worthwhile, whether that's your best friend, a boyfriend, a girlfriend, a partner or just a study buddy! Everyone will find someone to make their stay here a great one!
Although I don't always agree with the politics at the school (the school is pretty conservative), agree with the prayer at the ceremonies, or fit in with the "normal" crowd, I love my school. I love the teachers, my boyfriend, my friends and I wouldn't trade them for the world. I promise your experience here will get better, you just have to let the homesickness die down. Just say hi to someone you think is pretty cool, I guarantee they'll make your day!
