Chic Profile

It’s about to be a new year, and for me, a fresh start means a fresh face. I always love to play around with my makeup, but by the time January 1st rolls around, I’ve usually found out which products I can swear by. Here are my 2015 top five:

1. NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer: Everything you have ever heard about this concealer is true. It just does what it says it will do – it covers blemishes, scars, discoloration, and under-eye circles (without creasing)! Everyone loves it, but not everyone can afford it. At $28 a pop, it’s a luxury item, but save your pennies and someday you’ll be a part of the in crowd.

2. Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Sin: This eyeshadow has become a staple for me this year. It is incredibly pigmented and has a buttery texture, alongside superhero-like staying power throughout the day. It’s champagne color and soft (but glam!) glitter is suitable for every skin type and color and is perfect for everyday wear.

3. CoverGirl Outlast Foundation: The first time I got this foundation, I wasn’t sure I liked it. Then I realized I was an idiot because it’s the best foundation on the face of the planet. This foundation has great coverage and stays on all day long without looking cakey. It’s matte, but it doesn’t dry out the skin, and it’s the type of foundation that says, “What foundation? This is just my skin.”

4. L'Oreal Telescopic Shocking Extensions Mascara: The problem I have had with most drugstore mascaras is their flakiness. Those little specks of black that pop underneath my eyes drive me crazy and make me look like a raccoon. However, this mascara has a unique formula that gives you a luxury quality mascara at a drugstore price. It provides serious length and volume and hardens to the lashes, preventing fallout throughout the day.

4. NARS Albatross Highlighter: NARS has really won my heart this year. When the lady at Sephora fan-brushed this ish onto my cheekbones, I had a similar reaction to when Marlin finds Nemo. I NEVER KNEW I HAD CHEEKBONES BEFORE. This highlighter is a sparkling white with hints of gold and gives off a lovely everyday glow.

2016 is going to be a year full of new adventures, but with these five trusty beauty items, you can face them confidently (without under-eye creases, eyeshadow fallout, or raccoon eyes). Happy New Year!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
