There has recently been ongoing controversy about appearance in the work place and I have so much to say, but I will make it short.
First and foremost, it is the end of 2016 people. Get with the program! Look at how far our country has evolved from the past. Honestly, we have come a long way in a short time period but we have so much further to go. Obviously we have laws and regulations to keep our society in line and in a certain structure; however, they fail in this area when they say we are a free country of diversity.
Our country is supposed to embrace our individual differences and provide us with EQUAL opportunity no matter social class, race, gender, or religion. Each of these things is what makes our personalities, beliefs, values, appearances, diet, activities, and so much more different. These things are what make us who we are.
So who are you to deny me of opportunity because I do not fit in your box of whiteness. Oh. Did I hurt your feelings? That must be because I am speaking the truth. Who said that you could discriminate against me because I am not like you; I am me. I should not be denied fair opportunity because I was created the way I am. Where in the law does it say that we should treat people who are not part of the majority like shit by shunning them out, making fun of them, physically harming them, ripping them of their rights, of their DIGNITY?
Would you trade places with someone part of a minority for a week? For a day?
No?
We have a problem.
Why is there even such thing as minority and majority? Why are we labeled and put into boxes that are inside of boxes that are inside of other boxes? I am more than a label. WE are more than a label. If you blindfold 100 people of different social classes, races, gender, and religion and put them into a room together, every single person can say: I am alive. I am human. I have a soul. I breathe the same air. I love. I am loved. I am unique. I am different.
But... we, here, are equal.
Equality fails when our eyes perceive things with negative connotation. Where did we learn this behavior? Look at people through a new lens. See them for everything you have in common. You are just alike but so different. Embrace those things because that is what makes our lives interesting. Stop the discrimination. Stop the hate. Our world is filled with enough hatred and violence. We need more love, more giving, more appreciation for ourselves, for one another.
Only together can we make a change. Stop thinking someone should do something to change this, when you are someone.
