"Freaks and Geeks" is a TV show every teenager needs to watch. It may have been cancelled after just one season back in 1999, but later it was given high ratings by multiple different media sources. What makes the show so great is the fact that every teenager in high school can relate to one or a number of the main characters.
1. Lindsay Weir
She's lost, confused and just trying to fit in. Lindsay is a great representation of high school students because she is trying to find herself in the midst of high school and all of its chaos. Lindsay accurately portrays the rocky road with twists and turns that every student goes through.
2. Sam Weir
He's just a freshman, learning how to talk to his crush and deal with bullies. Sam is that awkward kid every teen has in themselves. But with his great friends, he will make it out of high school alive.
3. Daniel Desario
He's a freak: the personification of the rebellious side every teenager likes to unleash every once and a while. Deep down, he's a good guy and he genuinely cares about all of his friends.
4. Neal Schweiber
He is a grown man in a young boy's body. Neal helps Sam, his best friend, out anytime he needs him, whether it's dodging bullies or talking to his crush. Everyone needs a Neal in high school.
5. Bill Haverchuck
He is a super nerd, but can crack a good joke. With his best friends, Neal and Sam, by his side, they make the ultimate geek friend group. Nonetheless, they are genuine and have good hearts — definitely the people you want to be friends with in high school.
6. Kim Kelly
She is a bully, but she's got a dark backstory. Kim aggressiveness is the result of a wall she has built up because she has been hurt before. When she is with her friends she can be sensitive and deep down, she is a very sweet person.
7. Nick Andopolis
Nick is a dreamer. He aspires to be a famous drummer some day. Every high school kid has that dream career, and anything seemed possible in those days.
8. Ken Miller
He is quiet but when he does talk, he's sarcastic as hell. Ken is a hard person to crack, but once he opens up, he can be very genuine and kind. His group of friends is solid because they all genuinely care for one another, no matter what.
These characters are insanely relatable, and that is why this show is so great. It is easy to connect with one, a couple, or even all eight of these characters. It is a down-to-earth and completely real television series. Freaks and Geeks proves that you do not need a bunch of hot actors and actresses or a crazy plot to catch audiences' attention.
