We all have those nights where no matter how hard we try we're just tossing and turning all night long. We try to get comfy for what seems like ages, switching positions and flipping the pillow to the cool side. Well, next time you're having one of these nights here are a few things to try.
1. Tea
For my fellow tea drinkers out there here are a few you can try to help you fall asleep easier. Chamomile and Sleepy Time tea are two very excellent drinks to keep in mind on those restless nights. A neat little trick for those who don't necessarily like to drink tea is to take a nice relaxing bath and throw a few of those chamomile tea bags in there with you. These teas are sure to have you feeling relaxed and ready for a good nights sleep in no time.
2. Noise machines
You know those stormy nights where the soft pitter-patter of raindrops on the roof almost sings you to sleep? Well if you didn't know this already you can hear that same therapeutic noise every night if you wanted to. If you don't have a CD player or just don't want to spend money on buying white noise CDs, you can download an app called White Noise in the App Store on a smartphone. Then you just pick the sound that relaxes you the most, press play, maybe even set a time for it to shut off after awhile, turn off the lights, get all comfy cozy and fall asleep.
3. Bath or shower
Another trick to try is taking a nice hot relaxing bath/shower. Let the nice warm water just wash away all the stress of the day and unwind. Close your eyes take deep breaths and let the hot steam open up your sinuses. Maybe buy some lavender scented soap or shampoo for maximum relaxation. Hot water's a good way to also make sore muscles feel better. If you're taking a bath you could even throw some bubbles in there, light some vanilla scented candles, maybe even read a book and just clear your mind. After such a peaceful bath/shower you should be ready to slip off into dreamland.
4. Supplements
My last suggestion for easy ways to fall asleep is a simple over the counter supplement called Melatonin. You can go to your local CVS, Walgreens, or even Walmart to purchase some for under seven dollars. Your body already produces melatonin from a small gland in your brain to help with sleep and your wake cycle, so taking these tiny dissolvable supplements is perfectly fine(of course just talk to your doctor to make sure of the dosage.)
I hope these tips for simple ways to rid insomnia were helpful. Next time you're laying there wide awake instead of getting those precious hours of sleep, keep in mind these four sleepy tip times. Happy sleeping!
