The spring semester is in full swing, and date events are right around the corner. I don’t think that anyone would deny the fact that date events are a perk of Greek Life -- I mean I look forward to them. At the same time, they do take a lot of prior planning before the actual event. One of the most important decisions you have to make when planning for upcoming semi-formals is who you want to spend your night with. No one wants to spend their semi-formal with someone you met out the night before. So if your boyfriend/girlfriend can’t come in from out of town or you just don’t feel like being with the same person for the entire night, consider going solo!
No stress about who to bring
When all your friends are rushing around trying to find someone to bring last minute because their original date fell through, you won’t have to worry. You can focus on other things during the week before. It is also a good option if you sign up last minute to an event. Instead of stressing about who to bring just go solo.
Pay less
Let’s face it... bringing a date is expensive. Some chapters charge per person if the event isn’t included in dues. Besides that, you have to buy twice as many drinks and if you decide to color coordinate with your date you might drop as well drop $100 on a new dress. Have dinner plans before? The more people, the higher the bill.
Do what you want
If you go to a date event solo you can do what you want, whenever you want. If you want to go dance with friends, go for it. Want to take pictures with your roomates? Go ahead. You can show up when you want, leave when you want and do whatever you please during the time in between. You will not be disappointed because you will be able to make the night your own. You can go with the flow. You have no one to confirm your plans with. You don’t have to make any compromises. It would be a well deserved stress free night of fun.
You won’t need to be the babysitter
Nothing is worse than having to be the babysitter. Making sure that your date is having a good time is always a big responsibility. Making sure you don’t leave them alone for too long or trying not to ask them to take too many pictures. Having to apologize to your friends if they make a bad impression.
When it comes down to it, bringing a date to semi-formal IS fun... there’s no denying that. But don’t stress it if your next date event is right around the corner and you don’t have anyone in mind to bring. Going stag is a fun alternative, and keep in mind that it does have its perks!
