I have already spent three years at my university and now being in my fourth year as a senior, there is a lot that I have learned about college. I've learned things the easy way, and I've learned things the hard way. I've gone through three years of trial and error, and now as a senior, I finally think I have this whole college thing figured out. I've been in the dorms, I've eaten in the dining hall, I've experienced college without a car - I've done it all. And now as a senior, I'm here to tell you the things I know to be true about college from a seniors perspective.
1. Meal Plans Are Lifesavers
I've had a meal plan ever since my freshman year, even after having moved out of the dorms and into my on-campus apartments - and let me tell you, it has been a lifesaver. Sure the cost of having the meal plan in the first place might be out of some people's budgets as they leave the dorms, but I find it time saving and very convenient, even in my senior year. I don't go to the dining hall for all of my meals but at least I know it's there for me when I run out of food at home or have a busy day on campus.
2. Skipping Classes Is Never Worth It
Being a college athlete, I am pretty much forced to miss class from time to time with traveling and all of that. Missing classes because of travel is out of my control, which is why I do not skip class to sleep extra or because I just don't feel like going. With our crazy travel schedule, I already fall behind and that can be stressful, so I would definitely not recommend skipping class just for the heck of it.
3. The Parties Are Really Not That Great
I have never been much of a party person and will never be. However, this is college so sure I have experienced going to parties, but I am never impressed. It mostly consists of people making fools of themselves and trying to get others to make fools of themselves too.
4. Freshman Year Was The Best
In my opinion, freshman year is hard to beat. You're new and everything is exciting. Every sports event, ice cream social, and movie night in the pool is attended. This is the year you meet most of your friends, you become close with your roommate (or not) and you don't have the pressure of hard 400-level classes yet.
I really could go on and on about my opinion of college as a whole from the perspective of a senior, but that list would be way too long. These are just some of the first things that pop up into my head. If you're a fellow senior out there, I'm sure you have your own top four opinions about college as a whole. But none-the-less, college has been an amazing experience and I'm going to soak up the last couple months of it.
