Netflix, Hulu, the Internet itself -- all have changed the way that we view shows and movies throughout the years. But what about the old shows that used to be aired on regular television? There were quite a few good ones that I love to watch, and perhaps a few of these could interest you as well.
1. "Freaks and Geeks" (1999)
Even though this particular show only had one season reaching into the year 2000, this show was truly one of a kind. It was a typical show with a plot of depicting the struggle of both the newcomers of high school as well as the types of things that happen once you're in high school for a while, but it is the perfect balance between good comedy and seriousness. As you can see, many actors / actresses got their starts in this show, going from a very young Seth Rogan, James Franco and Jason Siegel.
2. "Supernatural"
This show started in 2005, so it isn't as old as Freaks and Geeks, but it actually ended fairly recently in 2013. This is another one of my favorites because I am personally a horror-fanatic. Once again, this show mixes good tongue-in-cheek humor with pure fear, which is what makes it so unique. Along with a great story line and gripping events of suspense and cliffhangers, the parts with humor are what bring the show together.
3. "Doctor Who"
Yet another one of my personal favorites that has been (technically) going on for decades. The original British TV show was aired throughout the 1970's, then was cut throughout the '80s and '90s. Then, in 2005, a new "Doctor Who" was brought back to the surface and has been going strong ever since. The reason that this show is so good is the cheeky British humor, the adventure, and the fact that the "Doctors" change throughout time due to the storyline, and everything seems to fall into place and make sense after watching it for a while. At first, most think that it is really out-worldly and sci-fi geeky, but it's very easy to fall into and find yourself binge watching each episode.
4. "The Inbetweeners"
Another absolutely hysterical British TV show is "The Inbetweeners." Starting in 2008 and having only a few short seasons, this show is truly hilarious, but I suppose this depends on your sense of humor as well. Profanity, punks, and hi-jinks are the main plot of the show, following four British teenagers as they also struggle to come into adolescence. Also incorporating traditional tongue-in-cheek humor along with flat-out nastiness and immature levels of comedy, this show is another great one to watch.
(Ironically, all of these shows are now on Netflix...even though they were all TV shows at the height of their time.)
