I Found A Doggie

The story about a stray dog that brought my heart lots of love and happiness today.

I Found A Doggie
Audrey Bennett

So originally I was gonna write about who even knows what for this week’s article. And then it hit me, well…not literally, but almost. I was driving along a back road and I saw two brown blobs moving out of the corner of my eye. When I looked in my rearview mirror I saw these two dogs running across the street.

I heartbrokenly turned my car around and pulled over near where I had seen the dogs. I jumped out of my car and tried to get one to come to me, whistling and calling out to it. He curiously looked at me and proceeded to run in the other direction. I have never been one to give up easily, so I drove my car further in order to follow them. Again I got out and whistled, hoping that they would come. One of the dogs, a German Shepherd mutt, came up to me and seemed friendly and he willingly got into my car. The other, unfortunately, skittishly ran off and was unable to be found.

I honestly just wanted to discuss how kind so many people were, to stop and help me try to find the other dog. There were a couple of people who sped away, even though they had seen the dogs running in the middle of the road. It honestly restores my faith in humanity. The Bible commands us to love our neighbors and it is incredible to see the love of Christ shown in even a way as small as trying to help a couple stray dogs. With the tens to hundreds of murders and evil acts that are committed each day it is hard to love a people so deep in the darkness. But the Lord tells us that others will see and come to know Christ by how we love.

At one point in our lives we were all lost, covered in dirt and grime, some even running for our lives just trying to find the strength to keep going just a little bit longer. And then suddenly we are rescued, cleansed by the blood of Christ and brought somewhere safe, a place we can call home.

Maybe I am reading into this stray dog situation a little too much, or maybe not. Maybe you’re reading this and you know that you are going through a rough time and you just don’t know if you can persevere any longer. Maybe you just need a little bit of saving. No matter what there is someone that loves you and cares about you. If there isn’t, reach out to Jesus because he will never fail us. And for those of you who have solid ground under your feet, it is time to get moving and spread love everywhere, you never know who might need to be found.

Back to the dog, that I would so desperately like to keep (Mom & Dad both said no, so that means… there’s always a few more hours to keep asking ;)). He has been bathed multiple times, fed, petted, loved and is now sleeping on about 5 towels in my bathroom. He is absolutely adorable and so sweet. If he is yours just know he will be at Hilton Head Humane Association tomorrow morning. If he is simply a stray then maybe one of you all reading this can contact them. Show a little compassion and love for your neighbors today.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
