The golden rules of formal.

Formal Survival Guide

Formal season is in full swing these last few weeks of the semester! What better way to celebrate the year with your sisters than formal? Finals may have you down, but formal is the perfect excuse to dress up and take a night off! To make sure it goes off without a hitch, here's a formal survival guide to live by.

1. A killer dress. As I always say, "The night will end, but the Insta will last forever" A killer dress is essential for formal. Look good, feel good, am I right?

2. Comfortable heels. Between the pregame, formal, and the after party, you are bound to be a dancing queen all night long. Taking off your heels at formal is a big no no. Not only does it scream "high school prom," but it's gross.

3. Hair and makeup on fleek, but not too much of it.Now is the time to go all out; falsies, spray tan, you name it one of your sisters is doing it. But keep in mind how much you'll sweat on the dance floor before you cake on an obscene amount of foundation or use an entire can of hairspray. No one wants to look like crusty Barbie by the end of the night.

4. A solid meal. It's important to stay well fed and hydrated (with H2O) before the formal festivities. Don't be the girl who spends half of formal with her head in the toilet because she didn't eat anything the last few days.

5. A fun date. There's nothing worse than bringing a dud to formal. Make sure to find someone who is a good balance of fun, cool, but also responsible. You don't want to get kicked out because of your date misbehaving.

6. A purse. This is my biggest regret at my last few formals. A clutch is essential to hold your phone, wallet, lipstick, and gum. You're not going to want to hold it all in your hands while on the dance floor and keeping it all in one place is a sure way to not lose anything.

7. Pregame playlist. Get the party started early with a playlist including your favorite throwbacks and party songs. It puts everyone in the mood to have a good time.

8. A photoshoot. Not saying you have to take 1,000 selfies, but you'll definitely want to get the squad together for a couple good pictures; that way you can relive the memories later on.

9. Your signature dance move. Whether you dab like a pro or hit the whip like an all star, you'll be sure to show everyone your true self on the dance floor.

10. A positive attitude. Nowadays, I feel like more people stress about formal than look forward to it. It's mean to be nothing but a good time so don't worry if you're hair isn't red carpet ready or your dress is the same as someone else's. Forget about all the small things and just enjoy the company of your date and sisters, because that's the most important thing.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
