Let's be honest: we all miss the pop music of 2007-2013. Everything was techno, autotuned, and sung by our favorite Disney Channel stars. None of this Chainsmokers, indie-electronic-pop-every-genre-of-music-merged-together-to-appeal-to-all-and-none-at-the-same-time. No, the late '00s and the early '10s were the glorious years where Britney didn't sing duets, Justin hadn't gone through puberty, and One Direction was still together. We don't always think of these songs on a daily basis, but when they come on, we recall the days when they were our daily jams. This mix consists of songs that are representative of so many other classics that have fallen by the wayside in this day and age. Let's take a moment together and remember.
You Make Me Feel... - Cobra Starship
This was a jam before, and re-listening to it right now, still is. QTNA: why did we stop listening?
American Boy (feat. Kanye West)- Estelle
Honestly, I never forgot this song. I went to London last year and, as evident by my friend's comment, made it a POINT to use Kanye's lyric as a caption. (Also was that John Legend in the music video around 1:46? Let me know.)
Bleeding Love - Leona Lewis
All I can say is bring this song back. Can we go back to intentionally butchering the end whenever we sing along?
Toxic - Britney Spears
I took Zumba for gym in high school (another story), and created a Zumba dance to this song. I truly think, now re-listening, that we should do everything to this song.
I Want - One Direction
The most underrated One Direction song ever. Someone had to recognize that and I will gladly shoulder the burden.
Fireflies - Owl City
GOOD LUCK GETTING THIS SONG OUT OF YOUR HEAD FOR THE NEXT WEEK!!!
Disturba - Rihanna
I think this was the first time anyone in my generation truly experienced a banger, a bop. Comparable only to "Telephone" with Lady Gaga and Beyoncé (which was a gift to us all).
DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love (feat. Pitbull) - Usher
I didn't want to be the one to say it, but remember when Usher was relevant? Glory days.
7 Things - Miley Cyrus
The 3 second opening to the song in the music video is enough to take you back to your pre-teen years. I can't be the only one who wanted to be a crying girl in this music video.
Overboard - Justin Bieber
I 100% made the conscious decision to put the version with Miley in here for two reasons:
1. It's iconic. Miley's hair? Goals. Justin's purple pieces? Memory lane. The split second where Justin, then 5 years old and maybe 3 feet tall, grabs Miley's waist and you're like, "Love? Romance?" You know that one second wrecked your heart for weeks.
2. I really think we need to remind ourselves that Never Say Never: The Movie, a cinematic masterpiece, is more important than any music video on this list.
