Isaiah 43:2 “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.”
Dear future me,
Future self, hopefully by now, you have it all figured out. You have reached that final stepping stone you have always dreamt of and strived for. You have a successful career; no more heartaches, you are happily married and although you grew up wondering what it's like to have a mom throughout your hopes and dreams... you are now more than the greatest mom, you are making up for all the lost time of your own.
There were many times where you have overloaded yourself, but look how far you have come. You have gotten through the times where it felt as if you were walking on thin ice throughout a semester or not, the times where you thought your world was going to end and all you could do was run home to your aunt. If you knew what you know now, you would not have learned anything. You would not have had a first love where you completely let yourself go, only to get let down and have to get back up. You wouldn't have had the times where you have failed only to learn and come back stronger. The past is the past and now the present should be the greatest version of yourself.
Remember, heading into college, you were a different person, but you started to transform into the best that you can be. Ready to take on the real world, ready to be the one that succeeds; although you have faced many obstacles to get to where you are now, remember, it was all worth it. The plan that God had written for you was finally unfolding, confusing at times, but the pieces were coming together even when you were not aware of it.
Future me, I am anxious to get to where you are right now. But it is our experiences that make us who we are. Today and so on, I choose to let my dreams and successes define me; I will release any problems or attachments that keep me from identifying them. I will continue to leap toward the unknown and follow my heart. I AM going to become the person I know I can be.
Finally, it is time to let go of worrying about any outcomes. Future self, you know that everything works out, which makes me want to catch up with you even sooner. But as of now, and in the future, I cannot wait to look back, share my stories, and smile. Without all that I have experienced and what I am currently experiencing trying to figure it all out, I would not be the same Dionna I am now.
Thank you to all who have impacted my life for the better.
Forever loving and dreaming,
-Younger Me
