For My Creators As I Say Goodbye

Sometimes you just need to move on.

For My Creators As I Say Goodbye
Huffington Post

Since January 2016 I have been writing for the Odyssey Online at Washington College. In May, I became a Contributing Editor. In June, I became a Community Ambassador and then in November, I became the Editor-in-Chief. I have enjoyed every second of it. However, sometimes you need to let things go and I think it is time that I passed the torch.

This fall I am going to be taking 22 credit hours and auditing two classes. In a way, I feel like I am abandoning my team, but my Odyssey community deserves someone who will be able to put more focus and attention on Creators and their needs. Stepping down does not mean that I am going to just be gone. I will be there to answer any questions that they may have.

To my Creators: I am super proud of you. Each of you has unique talent and produces great content. I have watched you all grow into wonderful young writers. Some of you are new and I have not gotten to know you really well, but I am super excited to see what you produce in the future. I want you all to know that there are going to be weeks when it will be hard to write or you think you can't do it anymore, but I want you to stick with it. Writing for Odyssey is a great learning experience and allows you to get your voice out there. Everyone needs to hear what you have to say. Your opinions and ideas matter. No topic is too crazy for an article.

I am excited to continue to see what everyone writes in the future and I am here for any advice when they need it. I'm not going to be gone for good. I'm just not going to be a part of the team. This was a very difficult decision to make and I'm really sad, but in the end, it is best for not only for myself, but for the community as well.

Stay creative and happy writing!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
