You can tell a lot about a person by the hobby that they have. Having a hobby is not essential, but it is something that is good to have. For me, I have hobbies that some might find boring; I love to read, watch movies and YouTube videos, play video games, and listen to music. I have also really gotten into photography. I believe that everyone should have a hobby, no matter how boring or weird they may find it (well, there are some hobbies that are out there that are weird, but that is something else entirely). Here's why you should find a hobby you love.
1. It’s a good conversation starter. Having a hobby is a great way to meet new people! This could be joining a club for those of similar interests, or you could even start your own (which would look amazing on your resume)! Having a hobby can also be a great ice breaker! You can relate to someone else through your hobby, or you may be able to inspire someone else through your hobby! Most colleges require their students to take a speech class, and I know a lot of my classmates would give a speech on a hobby that they have! Doing a speech is the ultimate conversation starter in my book!
2. It gives you something to do. Yeah, I know. This is a no brainer. I know that as college students, we hardly have downtime for ourselves. When we do have downtime though, it is a good idea to fill it with something to do. Now, for most of us, this could be going out with friends or other such events; however, you need something to do when you don’t feel like going out. For me, this is reading, playing video games, or watching YouTube videos. These hobbies allow me to relax and unwind from the long, hectic day of classes.
3. They allow you to express yourself. Having a hobby is a way to express yourself, or to find yourself if you have picked up a new hobby. They allow you to figure out what you like, what you hate, and what you could potentially do as a career. Hobbies can provide more than entertainment; for some, they can provide a future.
