Ladies and gentlemen.
Yes, some of you SJW's and pinched uber liberals will accuse me of being sexist and conformist to stereotypical gender roles. But let's cut the fat from the meat.
Food is love, food is life. Cue that creepy post about Shrek from reddit.
In the midst of drastic changes in turn of 21 century of America, most millennials have lost the ability to cook. Yes, there is fast food. But is that actually healthy, economical, and as ego boosting as the ability to cook a mean steak with a side of mashed taters? Nah.
There are definitely a ton of problems we millennials face. A bleak job market, student debt, passionless life, a terribly uninspiring social circle, health problems, self confidence issues, worry about not having found the right partner etc etc. But, you can do yourself a massive favor and LEARN HOW TO COOK!
Why is this skill not as present as it should be in a typical college going student? I think the real answer to most is lack of commitment and overall laziness to do so. Everyone wants to be a whiz at cooking, but most don't take the time to master whipping out a mouthwatering dessert that is the talk of a giggly drunken college dorm party.
I'm being absolutely serious. Regardless of gender, economic status, and IQ, anyone can and should know how too cook and feed themselves. You have one body in this life, it will weather sickness, heartbreak, physical exertion, and aging. It needs to be in tip top condition and for that paying attention to food and nutrition must be everyone's top priority.
Learning to cook will make you healthy. It will inspire you daily. It will challenge you and give you a sense of personal adventure. It will provide the sort of soulful gratification that only comes after learning a skill and relishing in its success. It will save you money. IT SAVES YOU LOTTA $$$$. And when the time is right, your willingness and heart to cook for friends and family will give you the sort of respect and admiration that only comes with being able to feed others. Any person who enjoys being able to cook will tell you that is all true.
The habits we build in our 20's stay with us for life. Do yourself, your body, your skill set, and ego a favor. And learn how to cook. Life will be easier. You will always find it easy to start a conversation with peers regarding food. Everyone loves food. And you just might woo that attractive person in your math class you have had carried a torch for too long. Offer them food, and see if they treat you a bit more special afterwards.
