FOMO: the reason why I stay up a little too late on nights before my 8 a.m. classes and why I go to dinner with my friends even though I already ate. My Fear of Missing Out has an overwhelming grasp of my life, and I know that many others my age feel the same way. With a little help from the trendy, classically-clad Taylor Swift, I bring you the 12 stages of FOMO:
1. You hear your friends planning to go out
2. But you're drowning in homework
3. In an attempt to be responsible (ha), you play it cool and tell them you can't go
4. But, let's be honest, the FOMO is actually already getting to you.
5. You pretend to be calm and collected as your squad rolls out for the evening
6. Although internally, you're neither calm nor collected.
7. You try to have fun without them
8. But it's just not the same
9. You start thinking about how left out you'll feel tomorrow when they talk about their night
10. And you ultimately give into the FOMO (typical)
11. You hike up your ballgown and run after them
12. And once reunited, you know you made the right decision
It’s a real love-hate relationship, FOMO, but in the end, thank you for making me fear missing out, because sometimes your extra push is exactly what I need.
