We want to follow in daddy's shoes. We want to be like our father. We can't help it, because we were made to pursue a boundless relationship with our ultimate daddy, our God. We are made to seek Him wholeheartedly, pressing through the nefarious actions of which we fall. 1 John 3:1 says, "See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him."
Our worldview has tainted our view of our heavenly Father. Fathers fail, daughters fail, each of us fails. In that, according to John 10:10a, "the thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy." The devil pursues after us seeking to blind our view of truth in who God really is. Reiterating 1 John 3:1, we observe "what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God" – ending the sentence declaring, "and so we are"!
Observing my youth pastor and his son, one day on a youth beach trip, his son wore matching Adidas sandals. I chuckled as we were learning about following after our Father… and here his 2 year old demonstrating the message of chasing after his daddy, trusting him to supply his every need.
We ought to do the same with our daddy. We ought to seek after looking similar to him and follow closely behind him, having faith He will supply every need and guide our footsteps.
