It’s a weekday night and you are lying in your bed wide awake. You look at the clock on your phone; it reads 2:00 a.m. Your mind is going crazy: over thinking, over analyzing everything you can possibly think of. You are just laying there staring at the ceiling feeling like your world is about to fall apart.
What do you do? Who do you call? Will anyone even be awake at this hour?
As you lay there you start to realize it is just you and your thoughts. You have to be your own support system. Taking some deep breaths, you start to convince yourself that everything will be okay.
You are the most important person in your life. Yes, your family and friends are still an important part, but when it comes down to it you will always have yourself. You need to be able to take care of yourself and love yourself for who you are because sometimes that is all you’ll have.
This isn’t so easy at times. You are also your worst enemy; critiquing every little thing about you. This is where those late nights of over thinking and over analyzing come into play, but you can’t let that get you down. You have to pick yourself right back up.
It isn’t easy to always love yourself, but you once you do, your outlook on life will change. You become more confident and independent. You’ll become much stronger in your beliefs and who you are. You won’t let others bring you down.
When other's words start to get to you, you have to take a step back. That’s when you become your own personal cheerleader. You have to remind yourself that you are amazing no matter what others say. You are who you are and you love it that way.
Those moments when you start to critique yourself and point out your flaws is when you need to really know how to love yourself. It doesn’t take much to do that. Just go to a quiet area; somewhere you can just focus on yourself. Then take a deep breath and remind yourself of all the things you have accomplished and all the wonderful aspects of yourself. Give yourself that pep talk you give to your friends when they feel this way. Lift your own spirits for once.
It isn’t just in moments like these that you have to love yourself. You have to love yourself everyday. When you wake up in the morning stand in front of the mirror and just say to yourself simple phrases like “I am beautiful,” or “I look good today,” or “Wow my hair looks on point.” Just little things like that make you smile and feel better about your day. You can also have a notebook by your bed and every night write down what you loved about yourself that day. This notebook may come in handy when you have some of your late night thoughts about your world falling apart.
When you love yourself first then you can start to love others in your life more. Loving yourself is one of the best things you can do. It helps you to become stronger and love your life. You smile more and realize what you deserve. There will points in your life when you are off living on your own and won’t be able to get that encouragement from others when you need it. You need to become your own number one fan and be like “Hey you know you’re awesome and I love you for you.”
