As a high school senior, I'm sure you've been planning your first year of college every day. You have Pinterest boards of dorm rooms, and you talk to your roommate every day with plans.. but how is it going to really play out? I just finished my first year, and I was just like you- so let me help you.
Don't take that 8AM.
GiphyIt's super tempting to take that 8AM class your first year, but it's not the best idea. Freshman year is all about getting into the groove of things and figuring out how to actually do college. If you're itching to do it, however, take it spring semester! You'll thank me later.
Don't be best friends with your roomie.
This. No, actually.. THIS. This is probably the most important one on this whole list. It's so easy to want to be super close with the person you live with. You want to trust them, go out and eat, and do a lot together! It'll go super well in the beginning, but trust me.. this always leads to disaster. Tried and true.
Do go to campus events.
GiphyI go to a very involved campus where campus events are literally everyday. It's easy to just want to go and lay in bed and watch Netflix, but attend some of the events! Learn some familiar faces!
Do take time for yourself.
GiphyTake time for yourself, even if that time is just going for a walk or taking a nap! It can be hard your first year: trying to make friends, being involved in clubs, trying to learn how to manage time. Don't always try to please everyone! Take that nap, watch that series on the flix- you do you.
Do step outside of your comfort zone.
The old saying of "you'll never know until you try" has never been more true. Do all the things! Get that tattoo, go to the parties, meet that tinder date.. Make the memories that you'll always remember! In fifty years you will not remember each individual nap you took- but you will remember that peacock tattoo on your butt.
