On any given school day at the University of Florida, you will most likely see a random assortment of people strolling down Gale Lemerand.
While we take pride in the diversity that exists on our campus, these people
can generally be categorized into five groups.
1. Basic srat girl. Decked out in her
oversized t-shirt, Chacos, norts and Aviators, the sorority girl has a style
all her own -- often referred to as “basic.” These girls are probably the
easiest to spot on campus because they are always traveling in large packs
and can often be heard, from a mile away, rambling on about what they are going to wear to their
next social.
2. Mother Teresa. Whether a boy or a girl, you’ll
find these free spirits either hanging from an Eno near Krishna Lunch or
advocating for a cause in Turlington. While you might spot these people walking
around barefoot, from time to time, you may secretly admire how nonchalant they
are.
3. Athletes. Usually swarming the Hub for their
Einstein fix, the athletes at the University of Florida are notorious for
sticking with one another around campus. Whether they are on the women’s
volleyball team or the men’s golf team, you can count on the fact that they’ll
be sporting the infamous blue backpack and other Gator gear.
4. Hung over mess. While they might not have it all
together, these people should be commended for their valiant effort. You will
most likely spot them waiting for the bus, since walking just isn’t even an
option, or attempting to nibble on a snack from Beaty Market to hold them over
for the next couple of hours. You will know right away if you have come into
contact with one of these unfortunate people, by the shame on their face and the raggedy nature of their outfit.
5. Future president. These are the types on campus who are always in a
rush to get somewhere. You are able to differentiate these dignified students
from a large crowd because they always have a sophisticated look and
their nose in a book. Despite their already hectic schedule, they somehow
manage to make time to take the hardest classes and are involved in just about
everything that UF has to offer.
