Fall semester is just about here, and I don't know about you all, but I am struggling to get my head back into the game. After moving into my new home for the school year and organizing all of my school supplies, I've come to the realization that it is fast approaching and I have got to get back into the swing of things, and I'm sure some of you are struggling with the same problem, so here are my tips for you (and what's always worked for me).
1. Get some strong coffee in your system and get on an early schedule.
One of the most difficult transitions is the morning routine. In the summer, you can lounge around a bit and take your time waking up, but once fall hits, you're running into the showers and racing to make that cup of coffee before stepping out to campus. One thing that helps me work back into those early mornings is trying out my new routine the week before–getting myself up early, showering and having a quick breakfast made, complete with a cup of coffee and maybe another to go on those long Mondays.
2. Start up some busy work to get used to deadlines again.
Log on to your college websites, check your syllabi, outline some important notes, email professors and start writing down important deadlines. Before you know it, you will be at mid-terms and realize that you have a ton of work you still need to get done and maybe a few missed assignments along the way. Writing out important dates and filling out my calendar before starting class helps me get all of my days straight and stay on top of my assignments.
3. Hit the gym.
Working out will teach you discipline and give you that extra energy boost everyone needs once school starts. I find that if I start my days with a morning workout, I am bound to be more productive, which is helpful with a full school and work schedule.
4. Plan out your week.
Plan your meals, make a game plan for any assignments and errands you have to get done. Don't press yourself for time, manage it.
5. Make sure you have that one thing just for fun.
Of course, you need that alone time to just sit and relax and be alone with your thoughts, but also allow yourself to have a treat, or go to dinner with a friend or take a walk in the park, so you don't go crazy with this whole new schedule and forced work.
These are some tricks I will be taking advantage of in these next few weeks. School is tough to get back into, but with a little practice and some time management skills, you are undoubtedly going to be on top of things this year. Good luck with the next school year!
