I was blessed enough to work with a group of incoming first graders to incoming sixth graders for five days at a music camp through my church and the experience, although exhausting, was rewarding in that I learned lessons from the children that can be very useful in life and here are some:

1. Speak the truth.

Children have minimal filters most of the time so whatever they say is their honest feeling. Always remember to speak your truth and to not be afraid of the response you could get back.

2. Mistakes are common. It's how you fix it that's important.

Whether they've been told to stop side talking or got into a fight with another child, these children made mistakes and quickly learned from them. Move on from the fact that you made a mistake and focus on how to fix it and move forward.

3. You can make a new friend in a day.

Children are a wonderful example of how one can introduce themselves to a new person and get to know them quickly. Don't be afraid to branch out and say hello to an unfamiliar face.

4. Those who are older than us make great role models.

Children love people who are older than them. They like to copy whatever they do. Never forget that those who are older than you have experienced you might not have had yet.

5. Have fun!

Never stop smiling and enjoying the moments because there's always a blessing in your life to be thankful for.
