Between publicity for dolls that mimic true body proportions, Dove’s ongoing "Real Beauty" campaign and Pantene’s, “Sorry, Not Sorry,” commercial, our society is moving towards positive body image. Despite this, one saying keeps being used: “Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.”
Living in New York City for the summer, a foodie paradise, I can assure you, there are many things that taste much, much better than skinny feels. I spent a day at Smorgasburg in Williamsburg, self-described as a “flea food market,” hunting for foods that will make anyone’s mouth water. Check out five foods that are worth every calorie.
1. Teryaki balls. These are pretty much cake pops, except savory and with
shrimp inside. They’re not on a
stick (I know, disappointing) and covered in a variety of sauces. Basically amaze balls.
2. Hand-cut french fries with truffle oil, parmesan cheese and garlic sauce. That’s a mouthful. As
are these fries. Any diet that cuts out
starch is evil because the mouth-feel on these babies is worth more than size two any day.
3. Champagne-strawberry macaroon. The perfect combination of delicious gooey interior and
crunchy, flakey outside. Also, it’s cute
and pink. Who doesn’t love that? So what
if they’re all sugar? Worth it.
4. Cranberry orange limeade (sweetened). This drink was perfect on a hot summer day. Not only did the fruits make it visually
appealing, they also had a fantastic flavor. This isn’t your standard lemonade stand.
5. Ice cream sandwiches. Whether almond and toffee is your preference, or vanilla
between two chocolate chip cookies with more chocolate on top sounds better, these ice cream sandwiches are the best. The ice cream stayed solid just long enough
to eat without ending up in a melted mess and the cookies were perfectly
soft-baked.
