Five Things Short Girls Know Very Well

Being short is great, but there are things that people say that we know all so well. Being short is not something that we can control, it is something that we are born with. I believe it is a blessing to be short. I am five foot one and I love being short. There are perks and there are downsides, but when you are as short as me, you learn to live with the perks. So, I have comprised five things that us short girls know all to well.

1. The saying, "Why are you so close to the steering wheel? "

To answer this question, it is to be able to reach the pedals. Without being able to move the seat, the car does not run. So yes, I have to move the seat close.

2. Not being able to hide your eyes from the sun with a visor

We have all been here. The sun is nice and pretty, but super bright. The next thing to do is to bring down the visor to shield our eyes. But, truth be told, it does not work! No matter how much we move the visor the sun will always be in our eyes. Then there is the move of moving your body up, down, left, right, and backwards, trying to fit our eyes to a shade.

3. Not being able to reach the top shelf

Store Shelves

Being able to reach the top shelf is a struggle. No matter how hard you reach you can't reach it, then you go all the way to the tippie toes and that still does not work. Then we avert to the stool, the chair, opening up cabinets to make a stairway to the shelf. If that does not work, then we go to the last resort, ask for help. Asking for help is a pride thing honestly.

4. Everyone is taller than you

Group of friends

No matter how short you are, there is always someone taller than you. There was a time when I was talking to my brother about how everybody is taller than me he tells me, "Heidi, being taller than you is not an accomplishment, it's gonna be everyday someone is taller than you". It is true, everyone is taller. But when you find someone who is shorter than you, well that is kind of an accomplishment.

5. Tall girls always complaining to us about how we always get the tall guys

Couple

Everypixel

Yes, yes here is the most thing I was always see or hear. Girls who are taller than me complaining about how us short girls get the tall guys. But to be fair, there really is nothing we can do about that. We can't make ourselves grow taller. We have to work with what we got and hey, my boyfriend is a foot taller than me. It happens.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
