5 Things I Miss Most From Home

Family is a dead giveaway, but I also desperately miss these five things while I'm at school.

5 Things I Miss Most From Home

I love being at Fairfield; I could not wait to come back while I was at home over the summer. I became an OST just so I could be here for 3 additional weeks in the summer. When I have to go home for an appointment or family obligation, I beg my mom to drive me back that same night (perks of only being an hour away). Anyone who knows me can tell you that I absolutely love everything about being at college. But as we come up on the big one month since move in date, even I have to admit that there are some things about home that I will always miss (besides my wonderful family).

1. My dog. Or cat, fish, rabbit, snake, turtle, etc. Anyone with a pet understands the struggle that is being separated from your very best friend during the school year. My friends here are cool and all, but my dog makes a much more interesting star of all my snapchat stories.

2. My bed. My foam mattress topper has done wonders for my bed in my dorm, but nothing compares to my bed at home. The blankets are my favorite, the pillows are fluffed to just the right amount and it's so much easier to make than my raised bed here at school.

3. The local deli. I feel like I lived at my favorite deli this past summer with how often I was in there. The bacon egg and cheese sandwiches from The Stag are okay I guess, but nothing compares to the heaven that is a Froggy's BEC.

4. My car. Sure, the Stag Bus takes me everywhere I need to go, but I miss the freedom of being able to drive around with '1989' blasting from the radio. Having my car over the summer really spoiled me because now I feel so enslaved to the inconvenient schedule of the Stag Bus.

5. My home friends. It would just be wrong for me to not include them in an article about what I miss most from home. Our different schedules with our classes and activities makes it so hard for us to keep in touch while at school. But I know nothing will have changed when we're finally reunited once again.

As Columbus Day weekend approaches, I can't help but find myself feeling a little bit excited about being reunited with all of these things again. Of course I'll miss Friday and Saturday nights at Fairfield while I'm home, but nothing can really beat a relaxing night at home.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
