College is the thing your teachers always mentioned. It's the conversation that your parents always started. It's the opportunity that some will take and the chance others will miss. College is the path that myself and many others have chosen this year. In the beginning of senior year my friends and I would always talk about the schools we were going to apply to. We stressed over application fees and essays. We anxiously waited on acceptance letters, and we cried over the denials. Eventually we choose a school and we fell in love. Then came graduation, and now in less than two weeks, we will officially be college students. I'm excited, but time went by so fast, and there's some things I'm just not ready for.
1.You're on your own...literally.
Once my family drops me off at school, I think its going to be hard realizing that they wont be back later on that day. As we get older we always want to get away from our parents, but now we actually are away. You cant run to your mom because she's miles away and that's something I have to get used to.
2. Responsibility.
Remember when your parents would ask you to clean your room? Or they would tell you that you need to bring your C in chemistry up? All the things they would remind you to do, that you didn't want to? Yeah, well now you have to do all those things and more because now you are responsible.
3.Freedom.
No one wants to have rules, nobody wants to listen , and the glory of college is that now you don't. You don't have a curfew, and you're going to make your own decisions, but sometimes I wonder if I'll abuse my freedom. So many people go to college and fail out because they partied too much, or they get pregnant, or they forget why they came. It's just terrifying to know that any of those things can happen to me.
4. New location, new people and a new lifestyle.
In August, I'm going to meet so many new people. It excites me that I'm going to be somewhere completely new, but I'm definitely nervous. My life is going to change so much over the next couple months
5. Growing up.
It seems like I waited so long to go to college, now that it's here, I can't say I'm ready to go.
College is the fate that I've chosen and those are five things I'm not quite ready for; however, I am more than confident that i will conquer my freshman year. To the class of 2020, congratulations, we've opened the first door to our future, and there's so much more in store!
