Summer is full of adventure, warmth, pool parties, concerts and festivals and holds a very special place in my heart, but there is still no season I love more than fall. The fall is just dripping with hot cocoa, bonfires, adorable sweaters and the kick off of holiday season to be spent with your family. So here are a few of my very favorite things that will be coming to you in the fall.
1. Hay rides
OK, laugh all you want, but oh my, do I ever love things like hay-rides and cornfield mazes. I live for little October traditions, such as these. There's something about zipping up those cute new boots, throwing on my favorite scarf and going out on the haunted (or not) hayride with a bunch of friends that really gets me ready for all of the cold weather and the holidays coming up.
2. Pumpkin carving
I always loved going to the pumpkin patch with friends and family to pick out my very own pumpkin. My family would always carve some crazy face into the front of it and bake the seeds for a crunchy snack for all the scary movie watching to follow.
3. Haunted houses
No lie, this might be my favorite fall tradition. I am a total wimp when it comes to people popping up or getting in my face with creepy costumes and scary voices, but I also love the rush of getting all nervous, heart racing, clutching to the sweatshirt of the stranger in front of you. I love it.
4. Putting out the decorations
My family has decorations for every holiday, but the prettiest and largest assortment come from the fall and winter holidays. I love the fake fall leaves centerpieces, the pretty little pumpkins and wreaths out on the front door. We make a whole day of it, sometimes throwing the Christmas decorations up there, too, if it's late enough in the season.
5. Nature walks
Alright, I may have lied earlier – this may be my favorite. I love taking my pup out for a walk through the nature park by my house and taking a look at all of the changing colors, feeling the breeze and the warmth of my sweater.
All of these things are what I look forward to most, along with the time off from school and the days spent with family, until the winter months start up and the Christmas cheer starts to get to me. Most people are dreading school, but I am more than excited for my busy schedule and the holidays.
