Shopaholic n. a compulsive shopper
As a best friend to a shopaholic and a moderate shopaholic myself (on pay weeks especially), I understand the joy that comes along with a solid amount of retail therapy. We always want what we can't have, right? My mom always tells me I need to keep a paid job because she cannot keep up with my "lavish lifestyle."
Here are five ways to tell if you are also guilty of being an avid shopaholic:
1. Going to work becomes an excuse to online shop.
I often find myself scrolling through pages and pages of clothes during my downtime at my office job. What better time to shop then when you have unlimited access to a computer and a decent amount of down time? Online shopping can easily become an addiction when everything you want is at the click of your finger.
2. You receive packages in the mail multiple times per week.
There is nothing better to a shopaholic than receiving surprise packages in the mail that she did not even remember ordering in the first place. Not only is online shopping great, but there is nothing better than finally receiving what you purchased in the mail after eagerly waiting for it. The best feeling is getting a notification from package services saying your new shoes from Nordstrom have arrived.
3. You have credit card accounts set up at your favorite stores.
Store employees know a shopaholic when they see one, and they are always quick to offer a credit card option to these individuals. How can we resist the rewards that will come along with the credit card?
4. You have a list saved in your phone of "items to buy".
Shopaholics know how to plan in advance. They can anticipate exactly what they are planning to buy before even entering a store. Their list of "items to buy when I get paid" is being constantly updated as soon as new merchandise sparks their interest.
5. You spend your money on clothes and material goods rather than necessities.
"Should I buy this outfit or eat dinner tonight?" This should never be a question anyone feels the need to ask, yet I have heard it from many a shopaholic. Why buy deodorant or food when you can have a beautiful new Michael Kors bag?!
Hang in there young shopaholics, one day when you are rich and famous you will be able to continue purchasing without any regrets.
Shout out to Kas, the biggest shopaholic I know.
