Meet Wolf Alice: an English rock/grunge/pop band made up of four people, Ellie Rowsell, Joel Amey, Theo Ellis, and Joff Oddie. Having released their debut album, "My Love Is Cool," in June 2015 after putting out two EPs, their name is slowly becoming a household one for this generation -- they were nominated for a “Best Rock Performance” Grammy for their song "Moaning Lisa Smile" and a Mercury Prize for their debut album as a whole, and have been constantly touring the UK, US (they had their first show at Coachella this year), Europe, and Japan. If you don’t know them, you’re missing out, and if you do, you know how great they are -- but below are a few reasons why they are set to become huge in the near future and why you should become a fan ASAP.
1. Their songs range from rebellious rock to softer, lyrical melodies, so you’re bound to find something of theirs you’ll enjoy.
("Blush" is one of my personal favorites.)
2. They’re pretty young -- they get us, and produce music which speaks directly to our generation.
Ellie and Theo (right) are both 24, while Joff and Joel (left) are 25.
3. They represent a new era of bands and rock/grunge music, with a frontwoman instead of a frontman.
Honestly, how badass and amazing does she look at their Glastonbury show?
4. Their lyrics range from sassy and aggressive to sentimental and touching, and are all very well written.
“I wash my face with soapy water
Disguise the tears cause you're somebody's daughter
And they don't ever wanna see you cry”
- "Soapy Water"
“I let your love take me
Now I am your love's whore”
- "Your Love's Whore"
“You ain't going to heaven (eyes wide, eyes wide)
'Cause I'm dragging you down to hell (eyes wide, eyes wide)”
- "You’re a Germ"
