The month of March indulges in much more than windy weather and a wild spring break. Behold, March celebrates the magical and historical ideology of Irish-American culture, more commonly known as St. Patrick's Day, on March 17th. This day is much more than the wearing of green, encountering leprechauns or finding four-leaf shamrocks and pots of gold. The realm behind the true meaning makes this holiday the absolute best.
1. Start your day the right way.
You need not an excuse in order to wake up and start downing some Jameson or an ice-cold ale. In fact, imbibing whiskey and beer at the crack of dawn is highly encouraged among Irish folk on this Gaelic day. But the drinking does not stop alongside your bowl of Lucky Charms! In fact, you shall binge drink all day long not with judgment and ridicule, but rather with comfort and cheers.
2. A celebration for all.
During this legendary tradition, all races, ethnic groups and religions are put aside as even the non-Irish persons can enjoy the rainbows and mischief. Anyone can freely celebrate. Unfortunately, since the saying goes, “Kiss me I'm Irish," don't expect any embraces if your family didn't originate from the famous Hibernia.
3. The drunken lottery.
If Valentine's day was a complete bust for you, this lucky day makes up for all of that February BS last month. Embrace single-hood and go crazy during the parades or at the bars. Scarf down your meat and potatoes, sing along to the Irish jigs and put on your brogues to Irish tap-dance the night away. If you're a bartender working on the 17th, get ready to win the drunken lottery.
4. Did you eat your greens today?
Of course you did! Every food and drink you come across will be dyed green, but it doesn't stop there. Many bodies of water and historical landmarks are changed to allure green because of the pure awesomeness this holiday exudes. Everyone gets into the patriotic spirit of this culture. Eating your greens, however, is not the same as wearing them. I would suggest doing so if you don't want to reap the consequences of coming across an avid pincher.
5. Luck of the Irish.
The most essential part of this holiday is the idea that luck is all around. Whether you are celebrating or not, just remember that extreme fortune is in the cards as long as you play them right. Cheers.
