Five Reasons Why Fall is the Best Season Ever

The fall is, hands down, my all time favorite season. To me, there is nothing better than curling up underneath a warm blanket in front of a nice, crackling wood burning fireplace at the end of a long day, watching the colorful leaves fall from the trees out your living room window. I feel like no matter where you are in the country, fall is always beautiful. It's not bleak like so much of winter often is, and it's cold enough to be snugly, unlike in the dead of summer. I hope everyone is as excited as I am for fall to finally be upon us, but if not, hopefully these five things will remind you why fall is the greatest season of all!

1. The colors on the trees.

I love the envy green of summer leaves just as much as the next guy, but who doesn't love driving down a heavily wooded road mid fall and being encased in the reds, oranges, yellows, and everything in between of fall leaves? I'll tell you...No one. That's who. The wild colors that come out in the fall are like the trees' last hurrah before winter. It should be celebrated.

2. Flannel shirts.

Let's be honest: We've all been dying to wear our flannels since mid August; It's just been too hot and we weren't sure if it was socially acceptable to do so in the middle of the summer. Well, it's no longer the summer, making now a perfectly acceptable time to dust off the old flannel shirt hanging in the back of your closet and wear it down to the grocery store. Plus, who doesn't like a good flannel shirt on a cold fall day? There's something about the crispness of the air that makes a flannel seem so warm.

3. Apple cider doughnuts.

Need I say more? There has been no other doughnut, in my opinion, that has ever come even remotely close to a fresh apple cider doughnut in the taste department. Nothing can beat how the warm doughnuts seem to just melt away in your mouth.

4. Carving pumpkins.

I don't know about you, but this was always a staple activity in my house during the fall. I LOVE the entire process of carving pumpkins, from picking out the perfect pumpkin, to deciding how to carve it, to finally seeing the final product come to life with the help of a tea light candle flickering inside. I even enjoy scooping all the goo out from the inside of the pumpkin! Plus, one can never go wrong with a snack of baked pumpkin seeds.

5. Pumpkin flavored everything.

Honestly, I am not the biggest fan of pumpkin flavored anything and I don't really feel like I'm missing out. I do, however, understand how important the flavor of pumpkin is for many people during the fall. Even I couldn't resist a nice piece of pumpkin pie if it were being offered to me...

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
