Valentine's day is a growing holiday within our society, so here are five poems to help keep the mood of love around Valentine's Day.

1. The Good Fight

Cancer effects many of those we love, and to think of the love that occurs between a couple when one is diagnosed can bring many to tears. It's the strength of both to keep love alive between the couple and to be there through each other's struggles, which is the basic idea of how this got written.

That there’s nothing they can do to help out.

You can’t face the truth that it’s over now,
And no one’s here to help you figure it all out.

And starting to define me.

It’s like the sickness is taking over,

2. Autumn

Through another lens Autumn shows how sometimes we push those we love away because there is something we don't want them to face. In the same vain as The Good Fight has a couple bonding and standing strong together to face the pain and treatment of cancer, Autumn shows how some people feel it's best to push them away, and face the disease alone. Often the one who was left ponders what happened and why, whereas the other suffers alone, but saves their former partner the pain of experiencing the pain of watching them wither.

Your auburn hair sits fresh in my mind,

Wishing I could say everything on it.
It’s me that’s messed up,
And I’m running out of luck.
All I have are fading memories,
A time that feels so long in the past.

I wish that I could,
Feel your cold embrace once more.

And you vanished in thin air.

My mind is playing tricks on me,
But I can’t make it stop.
People all around me they dance and rejoice,
They shout your name and goddamn I hear their voices.
When Autumn comes back it’s a happy thing,
Yet all I can remember is how you left me.

Are you doing okay?
Dear Autumn is it wrong of me,
That I want to hold you tight?
I just want to protect you,
Give me another reason to fight.

Dear Autumn I understand,
You don’t think it’s for the best.
I’ll just stay here standing by,
I can wait here until you need me one night.
Dear Autumn now I’m standing here,
Crying in the rain.
This time it was all up to you,
You couldn’t have me in this fight.

Dear Autumn I’m sorry my love,
I should’ve fought to be by your side.
Now I lower you into the ground,
Dear Autumn it’s goodbye time now.
I’ll bring roses every other day,
And when Autumn comes,
I’ll remember your face.

3. Take a Chance

Well, Valentine's day is all about love right? There are some of us out there that require a bit of a nudge, some words of encouragement to make any sort of hint towards a person of interest, and that's what this is meant to do. Go on and take a chance and ask that girl out, tell that boy how you feel. Don't let the moment pass you by, we've only got one life to live.

My heart starts beating way too fast,
And all I know is that you should take this chance.

So let’s get one thing straight,
I’m kind of messed up and a bit too crazy.

And you realize that you’re glad, you took this chance.

4. Cuddles

Pretty much everybody can get the urge and mood to just cuddle up next to someone and feel warm. It's a nice feeling, a warm and safe feeling, and there's always a hint of happiness that comes out of it. So hopefully this doesn't bring on that sort of feeling if you're unable to find a cuddle buddy.

The one where life stops,
Everything is in the moment.
Nothing matters outside the moment,
Because what truly matters is time with you.

I don’t get the feeling very often,

But lately that has begun to change.
I can’t argue against it for I find it to be comforting.
Even in my darkest depths of anger or sadness,
That moment forces a smile on my face.
Others don’t always get this,
Cheated by the cruel hand of fate.

Being a victim is nothing new to me,
Yet I never expected to be the benefactor.
Within my fears and questions,
They fade away quickly.
This moment I wouldn’t pass up,
With you in my arms,

Nothing can stop me.
Challenge me as you might,
Happiness gives me unknown strength.
While I might deserve to die,
I forget all my bad deeds.
All the stress and work on my mind,
Ceases to exist in the moment.
With you there’s only good,
And that’s how life should be.

5. I Can Always Make You Smile

Many people have seen the cartoon to the right, and while I'd seen it before I never really got anything out of it. It was later when I was looking through Any Means Necessary Clothing that I stumbled along a much creepier version. I knew I had to have it, and it is one of my comfiest t-shirts. In a way it helped me express an idea that a relationship should be, that whatever has happened you should always be able to cause who you love to smile. So while we think on Valentine's Day and all the love that surrounds it, remember to make those important to you smile.

Maybe even adopt a munchkin kitty.

I promise I’ll try not to stare.
Playing with volatile fire,
One day I’ll eventually tire.
You’ll always be a star,
It doesn’t matter how good you are.
I’ll lie there and stroke your hair,
I charge no fee, nor a fare.

My demons I have faced,
You’re my happiness in this place.
Just know you are not alone,
I’m always up to steal some cones.
Even if I have to force your lips,
I’ll give you a smile that never dips.
You should always be as happy,
Well as happy as I am sappy.
I won’t lie, I know you’ve cried,
But I never wanted to be that guy.
