I saw the movie "Finding Dory" this past weekend, and it was absolutely 100 percent worth the 13 year wait! It was without a doubt the cutest movie I have ever seen in my 20 years of life, and seven year old me would have definitely watched this movie on repeat for the next six months (I may or may not have done that with "Finding Nemo". #sorrymom). Cuteness aside, "Finding Dory" has some valuable life lessons to be shared.
1. Knowing another language can come in handy
Dory speaks whale, and in this movie we find out why. Having another language under your belt can come in handy. It can even help you make some unexpected friends!
2. Be spontaneous sometimes
Considering that Dory suffers from short term memory loss, she never plans her next move. She just does it! Sometimes we get in our own way by talking ourselves out of things, and the we regret not going for whatever it was. Think less, do more!
3. Remember what's important, forget the rest
Does Dory have a good memory? Absolutely not. But she is able to remember the important things in life which she holds above everything else. So sure she has short term memory loss, but at least she doesn't have to worry about small insignificant things like we all do way too much.
4. Sometimes a trip is about the journey, not the destination
Okay, okay. I know this sounds SO corny, but throughout my years in college I have found this to be so true. College is a journey that we take to figure out where we want to go next in life. Although it can be extremely difficult at times, I have learned so much about myself, about life and met some amazing people along the way.
5. Just keep swimming
No matter what it is, keep going. Failed that test? Study harder and do better next time. Do not give up because you failed. Learn from it, try again and just keep swimming.
