5 Gross Things College Students Do

I've done all these at least once in my college experience so far.

The other night my roommate and I were talking, both of us college freshman. We were discussing in these first few weeks of being at school the absolutely horrid, disgusting things we’ve done as college students so far. (And don’t lie, you know you’ve at least done one.)

1. Cleaning silverware with Clorox wipes.

Now my roommate and I have not specifically done this but our friends do this. We were smart enough to bring a sponge and dish soap but think about all those chemicals they're ingesting...gross.

2. Using your drinking water for everything.

In college even though there are sinks your access to them is not as convenient as they are at home. In your dorm you start to accumulate a lot of reusable water bottles that now becomes your sink. Yeah, it doesn't seem that gross but it becomes gross when you are using it to help take off your makeup at night.

3. Not doing your dishes for days.

Now doing your dishes in the communal bathroom is quite a hassle. It requires you to grab all your dishes at once and walk down the hall to the bathroom that you share with fifteen plus people. It's not that we are slobs, it's just that it's a pain.

4. Taking a Febreeze shower.

We've all done it, don't lie to yourself. Doing laundry in college is another hassle because it's not as simple as throwing your clothes into the laundry room and the magic laundry fairy (aka our mothers) wash, dry and fold our clothes for us. This is now one of our other new adult responsibilities. Some days we really want to wear that cute dress and you haven't done your laundry yet so you whip out some Febreze and spray away. I'm sorry but a little Febreze never hurt nobody.

5. Shaving in Your Dorm

Now this is another one that again is all about convenience but sometimes a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.

So there's my top five gross things that I've witnessed in my so-called college experience.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
