Every friend is different, just like a snowflake, but with personality traits. No matter if you have one friend who embodies all of these or a big group who take on each one individually, there are five types of best friends who you absolutely can't live without. Whether it's at a party or hanging out and binge-watching Netflix, each one plays her own role. Let's be honest, we wouldn't be the same without our friends.
1. The Mom
You already know which of your friends this is. She pops into your head right away. They're like a hover parent, except way cooler. This is the friend who picks you up on the side of the road at 3:00 a.m. The mom friend keeps the group together, manages all of the conflict, and always has gum, band-aids, and chapstick in her purse. When you actually get this friend to come out with you, everyone gets really excited because it's such a rare event. She'll be the first to tell you when your shirt is a little too low-cut and she will tuck you into bed when you're sick. Hold onto these ones.
2. The Therapist
This is probably the friend who is number one on speed dial. If someone steps on your shoe while walking to class or gives you a slightly off look at the coffee shop, you can text her to complain about it. She may not always have something to say (sometimes her advice is actually horrible), but she will certainly listen and make you feel like your opinions are heard. Typically, this is also the friend who knows all of the gossip, but who will never give away any of it. She’s a great shoulder to cry on and you know that there’s never any judgment, no matter what crazy thing you tell her or cry to her about.
3. The Stand-in Boyfriend
Whenever you need a formal date and are too lazy to find someone else, she is your go-to girl. She’s more fun than a real date, anyway! You probably text her to complain about cramps or to ask if she wants to go do something "coupley" with you. Sometimes, you might fight like an old married couple, but, at the end of the day, you still love each other no matter what. This is probably the friend who everyone else knows is your bestie. It’s even better than having a best friend, though, because they play some of the roles that your boyfriend wouldn’t want to (like going to the mall or finally seeing Justin Bieber in concert). Who needs real relationship drama, anyway?
4. The Motivator
Are you scared to death of heights? This friend can still somehow convince you that skydiving is a great idea. Are you tired on a Sunday morning? She can get you out of bed to run six miles. Most of the time, she probably guilt trips you into doing something that you don’t want to do or she just convinces you that it’s a great idea. This is the friend who keeps you young and alive. It’s always good to have someone who keeps you on your toes. This friend is down to plan random weekend trips, set spring break plans, and keep your butt in shape for formals. She is probably much more fun than you will ever be, but they say that you are who your friends are, right?
5. The Class Clown
This is the friend who everyone undervalues but, honestly, nothing would be the same without them. As soon as they’re gone, you notice. No matter what, she’s a fun time. She will probably fall down on the dance floor at formal or rip her dress while you’re out, but she will certainly keep everyone laughing. Typically, she’s clumsy, goofy, and a great time. Deep down, she has a soft side that you love to know. We all have that friend who's totally weird, but who everyone loves anyway.
