If you know me, you know I absolutely love watching scary movies. In the spirit of Halloween, these are just five of my favorite scary movies you shouldn't watch alone.

1. The Strangers (2008)

I watched this movie when I was thirteen and it is still one of my favorites. It is about a couple staying in a cabin in the woods, who find themselves tormented by, wait for it... strangers. It is very suspenseful and builds up the tension by having the strangers just feet away from the couple and them not realizing it. What made this movie scarier for me was that it is based on true events, the Keddie 28 murders. In 1981, Sheila Sharp found her mother, 36, her brother, 15, and a family friend, 17, brutally murdered in their cabin in Northern California. They had been tied up and killed with a butcher knife, a steak knife and a claw hammer. Authorities are still looking for the killers today.

2. The Orphanage/El Orfanato (2007)

This movie was utterly heart-breaking. It is categorized as a horror film, but it is more dramatic than anything. It is in Spanish so you have to watch it with subtitles, but it's a movie you can't miss. It is about a woman named Laura who returns to the orphanage she grew up in, with her adopted son Simon. When he goes missing, she learns the story of his imaginary friend Tomas. The plot twist at the end will definitely leave you in pieces.

3. The Sixth Sense (1999)

If you have never watched this movie, please do yourself a favor and do so. One of M. Night Shyamalan's best movies, it is about a little boy who can see ghosts and turns to a child psychologist by the name of Dr. Crowe. Another movie with a great plot twist, this one can be found on Netflix!

4. Grave Encounters (2011)

This was a movie I accidentally found on Netflix a few years ago and was completely surprised at how good it was. It is about ghost hunters who look for paranormal activity in an abandoned psychiatric hospital. They find themselves trapped and have to find a way out before they are killed by the ghosts residing there.

5. It Follows (2014)

Another movie that surprised me, this one is about a girl who is followed by a walking curse that can turn into whoever and will find you no matter where you go. It was a different story than the usual scary movie, but a good one on Netflix.

These are five of my favorite scary movies that I could watch over and over when I'm looking for a good scare. They are not very cliche and have good plots that will keep you interested and hopefully scared for a while. Hope you watch them on Halloween!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
