Gifford’s is a Maine-made ice cream company, with the main factory right in Skowhegan, Maine. And boy, they have some crazy flavors. I haven’t tried all of them, but I’m aiming to try as many as I possibly can. I have watched many people laugh in delight when they receive their ice cream and the treat it holds. Here is a list of 5 to try if you haven’t already:
1. Fly Fishing Fudge
It took me a couple years to try this one, and man, is it sweet! By sweet, I mean a ton of sugar. Fudge swirls are mixed into vanilla ice cream along with M&M’s, chocolate chips, and cookie dough. If you do not have a large sweet tooth, stick to one scoop of this delicious concoction. Otherwise you might end up with a toothache!
2. Maine Lobster Tracks
No worries, there is no lobster in this ice cream at all. Besides the little red caramel fudge ones, of course. There’s also what tastes like a fudge swirl, but apparently it is éclair, according to the brief description Gifford’s gives, mixed into the vanilla ice cream. The best part about this ice cream is that they hand you a lobster bib to eat it with!
3. Blueberry Pancake
This ice cream actually tastes like a pancake. There are little pieces of shortbread it in with a homemade blueberry ripple. Made from Maine’s wild blueberries, of course. Mixed into the entire mix is Maine maple syrup. Maine maple syrup is a treat on its own, so this ice cream is an extra special treat.
4. Cake Batter
Now this is one that I have not tried personally, but I have been with people who have raved about it. They told me that it does taste like vanilla cake batter. Add in the shortcake pieces and chocolate frosting, I’m guessing it had to have been just like cake and ice cream! It is on my own personal list to try!
5. Pink Peppermint Stick
Pink, peppermint ice cream seems like it should be a treat for the Christmas holidays. Red and green peppermint crunch pieces just add to the festivities that happen every time you take a bite of this delicious ice cream.
If you are not too fond of the crazy flavors, there are plenty of plain flavors that are just as delicious. Try the chocolate, it's won world awards!
