The 5 Best Songs From 'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend'
CW TV

At the beginning of the month, Netflix added "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" to the list of shows it streams. Having finally finished season one of this show last week, it has easily become one of my favorites. "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" is about exactly what its title states. Rebecca Bunch, a successful lawyer in New York, suddenly quits her job and moves to West Covina, California...which happens to be where her ex-boyfriend Josh lives. Shenanigans ensue, and as Rebecca tries to win her first love back, you have the chance to fall in love with a wacky crew of characters. This show discusses important issues, such as mental health and feminism, in a hilarious way. But one of my favorite parts of this show are the songs. Each episode features original songs sung by the characters, which makes this show a Broadway lover's dream. Here is my ranking of the top five songs from "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend."

5. "I Could If I Wanted To"

This song, sung by Greg, is a hilarious view into all of our minds. He's bitter about getting a bad grade in class, and then goes into a list of all of the things he could do if he wanted to. It's the ballad of an underachiever. A lot of the songs in this show are relatable and downright hilarious, and this song is no exception. Santino Fontana, who voiced Hans in the animated movie "Frozen," puts on a great show as the song progresses.

4. "The Sexy Getting Ready Song"

Rebecca Bunch herself sings a song about getting ready that most girls can relate to in the very first episode. Complete with sexy backup dancers, a rapper and a scene where she squeezes herself into spanx, this song was one of the reasons I kept watching "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend." It was a fun dance number and a catchy song that I still find myself singing when getting ready.

3. Theme Song (West Covina)

The theme song itself is a catchy little tune that explains the entire plot of the show. Though you hear it in every single episode, I've found that it never gets old. Watching Rebecca Bunch sing about her life before and after moving to West Covina with a group of cartoons is the perfect way to start off a slightly ridiculous but lovable show.

2. "I Gave You A UTI"

This was one of the songs that I heard before I started to watch the show, and it may have been the deciding factor. The over-the-top dance number that Greg performs is hilarious, and his excitement at giving Rebecca a UTI is actually kind of adorable. Greg is one of my favorite characters in "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend," and his numbers always steal the show.

1. "Getting Bi"

This was the first song I heard from "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend," and it's still my favorite. Derryl is a minor character on this show, but he is admittedly one of the best. His plotline as he figured out his sexuality comes to culmination in this catchy pop tune. It's rare for a television show to talk about bisexuality, and for a popular show to have a whole musical number about it is remarkable.

If these five songs convinced you to start watching "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend," you can find the first season on Netflix. The soundtrack, as well as the first season, is also available on iTunes. The second season of "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" will begin airing October 21 on the CW.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
