The fall season is one of the busiest and most stressful for many students and professionals alike. When I'm feeling overwhelmed, nothing puts my mind at ease quite like some good music. Here are some records perfect for stress-relief and getting you through a busy week.
1. El Ten Eleven - El Ten Eleven

El Ten Eleven always helps me chill out when my mind races. The duo, composed of a combined guitarist/bassist and a drummer, crank out soothing layered rhythms with precision. Frontman Kristian Dunn plays a double neck guitar-bass combo, and uses looping and effect pedals to bring it all together. They’ve released eight studio albums over 10 years, but their debut album, El Ten Eleven, is my favorite. The group is truly a unique and talented act worth more than one listen.
2. Travis Scott - Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight
Travis Scott’s sophomore album, dropped earlier this month, does not disappoint. Featuring the hit single “pick up the phone” with Young Thug, Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight expands on Scott’s creativity established in his debut record Rodeo. The album has both club hits and more introspective, slower tracks to take your mind off all those responsibilities.
3. Dinosaur Jr. - Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not

If you haven’t heard of Dinosaur Jr., I pity you. The band released their first record in 1985 and has been impressing people ever since. Dinosaur Jr.’s most recent album,
Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not, offers more of the groups signature fuzzy guitars and face-melting riffs. The first track, “Goin Down,” may just be my favorite. There’s something about Dinosaur Jr.’s music that gives me a
care free vibe, at least temporarily.
4. Green Day - Revolution Radio

Legendary pop-punkers Green Day will release yet another album in October 2016. The group has already dropped two singles from the new album, entitled
Revolution Radio. Green Day has been making music since the late ‘80s, and I can remember hearing them throughout my childhood and adolescence. They boast an impressive 85 million records sold worldwide, as well as three Grammys. Sometimes a good head bang just melts the stress away, and
Revolution Radio provides a good soundtrack for just that.
5.Beck - Sea Change

Beck, in my opinion, is over-looked and often under-rated. The group is so dynamic in their approach that their records have spanned virtually every genre. A release from Beck has equal chances of sounding like hip-hop, rock n’ roll, alternative, or an acoustic ballad.
Sea Change sounds most like the ladder. I had the pleasure of seeing Beck live in New Orleans recently, and the show sounded phenomenal. Beck played several tracks from
Sea Change, a somber, relaxing record ideal for calming your nerves. If you’re looking for something more upbeat, check out
Beck’s new single, “Wow.” Its very, very different from
Sea Change.
