So this year, I encourage you to step off the elliptical and into one of Nashville’s most hidden fitness treasures. Here are the top five non-traditional fitness centers here in Nashville.
1. Title Boxing Club -- Green Hills and Church Street
Throw your preconceived notions of boxing away. Title breaks all of the traditional boxing stereotypes and delivers a truly fun and impactful workout. Hour-long classes teach abdominal, arm, and cardiovascular strength and endurance all while jamming out to upbeat music. This is a great workout for younger and older participants alike since every move can be tweaked to fit your body’s needs. Title is a fun and confidence boosting way to achieve your health goals in 2016!
2. Pure Barre -- Green Hills
A barre isn’t just used in your child’s dance class anymore. While this fitness center does utilize a ballet base and incorporates music, it is a great option for many fitness lovers and can be an addition to traditional high impact workouts. Classes aim to create lean and long arms, abs, and thighs through low impact movements, but there is a huge dedication to the community of participants trying to improve their health and happiness as a whole. Pure Barre is a great option for finding a health home and true workout community here in Nashville.
3. Shakti Power Yoga -- Music Row
Shakti, which is located in a beautiful quaint home on Music Row, is certainly the best hot yoga experience in Nashville. Like all yoga, it aims to relax participants as well as strengthen and tone the entire body. This is a perfect workout that simultaneously releases stress- something I think we all need in our lives. There are a multitude of classes designed for beginners to advanced yogis and the community here is excellent. This is a great choice for a workout and overall new hobby.
4. GitFit 615 -- Music Row and Edgehill
This fitness studio is unique in itself by incorporating all of the unique types of fitness that health lovers enjoy! GetFit is known for its circuit training class schedule, which utilizes different activities throughout the workout in order to incorporate the whole body. Classes are approximately 40 minutes and utilizing weight resistance, cardio, and traditional weight lifting. This type of fitness is more traditional compared to other centers on this list, but it is a great re-vamped option for escaping a traditional gym. This is a great option in the Music Row area of town.
5. CrossFit Nashville -- Midtown
CrossFit is a phenomenon that is truly sweeping the nation, with hundreds of “boxes” in practice, including quite a few in Nashville itself. This is anything but a traditional workout and is the most original on this list, but it is a huge commitment and difficult workout as well. CrossFit believes in a balance of speed, endurance, flexibility, and more, making it a wonderful all around workout for any participant. It is a very high intensity workout, but one that Nashville certainly enjoys!
