First Year Of College

College life for incoming freshmen.

First Year Of College

I want to write this letter to all the incoming college freshmen to explain most of the experiences that are going to happen because I wish someone would have told me more about college.

Dear Incoming Freshmen,

As summer ends, many recent high school grads are preparing to embark on a wonderful journey. That journey is college. Most incoming freshmen have never been away from home, or never had to imagine being by themselves.

As a recent college freshman, I can assure you that college isn't anything like high school. You have no one to tell you when to get up and get ready and no one is going to force you to go to class. College is a whole world of freedom and for some, that freedom may be a noose that many will hang themselves with. Others will handle that freedom like young adults.

College teaches many lessons, such as how to handle problems without the help of parents. The college also teaches how to find yourself and how to be content with being alone. In college, you will also meet a lot of friends. Some will be your best friends for life and others will only be a life lesson.

There are so many more things I could talk about and this letter could on forever. Just remember that college is a whole new experience and you will experience so many changes from the freshmen 15, to intimate relationships, to brand new friendships. Remember: welcome all the new changes and possibilities.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
