Hey yall, hope yall have had a good week...mine has well... been interesting.
I am a sophomore in college, which, I think, marks your first year of being adult. Freshman year and living in a dorm is basically 9 month long camp. So, here I am a baby adult who just moved into a house. A house that my parents do not also dwell in. So I have to take care of things and be a ...well...adult.
I've been living totally on my own without an adultier adult or a room adviser for 2 weeks now and this is what has happened in the last few days:
1. My keurig started violently spewing water when I filled it up and plugged it in
Whatever, it's fine, it's an excuse to go to my favorite little coffee shops anyway.
2. The lawnmower my parents got me literally fell apart
Thank God my roommates dad (who seems like a really "got-it-together" adult) was still there to fix it because my yard was getting bad and I needed to mow because that's what adults do. Maybe really good adults pay other people to mow their yards, but I'm getting there.
3. My washing machine quit working
I have not reached the Calling Your Own Dang Plumber Or Whoever Can Fix a Washing Machine level of adult yet, so I called my parents. Then proceeded to take all the sopping wet clothes out of the washer and drove me and my laundry back to my parents house because laundry mats are sketchy and cost money.
4. The dishwasher was full of water and wouldn't drain
Dad got another call.
5. The TV went out in the middle of watching netflix
The remote wouldn't turn it back on and I very dramatically proclaimed, "IF I BREAK ONE MORE THING I'M MOVING BACK INTO THE DORMS BEFORE THE ENTIRE HOUSE FALLS APART!"
However, having a tech savvy dad the first thing he would ask me when something wasn't working was "have you rebooted it?" So I unplugged it and plugged it back in and we resumed watching One Tree Hill.
One of my favorite stories growing up was Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and this week I could relate to Alexander, but as it says in the story "my mom says some days are just like that" and it's true. After all this, I laid on my couch with a cup of tea and with the blinds to the backyard open where I could see the incredible view I have and noticed the beautiful west Texas sunset that night and decided I like my house and being an adult is okay, I guess.
To sum my story up, I'm thankful I don't live too far from home and have friends in Lubbock that can fix my messes as I'm learning to do life.
