"Life just isn't fair” ... “Sometimes life gets in the way"...
How many times have you heard, said or read those things? I'm here to tell you how inaccurate those statement are. They're mere cop outs, complete bullshit. I know, because I've used them before. Those statements and statements similar are for people who don't want something or someone... BADLY ENOUGH.
Life doesn't get in the way, excuses do.
Have you ever wondered how your life would be had you taken a different road, made a different choice? Have you ever compared your life to your friends or families lives? Second guessed yourself or your past decisions?
Um, yeah me too and way too often.
You need to put those thoughts to a screeching halt, STAT.
Seriously, why do so many of us live our lives based on other people's lives, other people's opinions ... why do we care more about perception and status than we do about ourselves and our own happiness?
I don't just mean the obvious stay in a relationship/marriage for the kids kinda thing (which btw, is so unfair and unhealthy to and for everyone involved). I'm talking about everything...
I'm talking about LIFE.
Seeing your partner doesn't make your heart skip a beat and/or you don't consider them to be the BEST OF YOU or your BETTER half? You really need to ask yourself why.
Your kids want to stay awake just 5 more minutes or play one more game and it's past bed time? Let them.
You left your house, hung the phone up or went to bed mad at your kids, your parents or your loved ones? Turn around, call them or wake them up and tell them you care, that you love them.
You get a coffee at a drive thru and it isn't what you ordered or wanted? Take it back, make it right.
You go to a concert and it absolutely stinks? Leave.
You don't like your career path? Change it.
You want to go back to school to be a doctor? Do it.
You've always wanted to learn how to tango? Sign up for lessons.
That new shirt you bought looks ridiculous on you? Return it.
The paint color in your house isn't something that makes you happy? Paint it.
Have you ever picked up something without lifting your arm or gotten anyhere by running in place? You can try going nowhere expecting a sense of accomplishment, the feel goods or the happy in doing so, but trust me I've tried. You WILL fail.
The accomplishments, the feel goods and the happy? Those don't come from settling, they come from taking more chances and making less excuses.
Here it is; life's too short. There aren't any do-overs... THIS IS IT! In the end, it doesn't matter whether or not you broke a few rules, how many mistakes you did or didn't make, how much money you have or what your status is... none of that stuff goes with you.
Don't waste these precious minutes puffing out your chest full of pride, drinking mediocre at best coffee, listening to tone deaf bands, forcing yourself to walk through the doors to a job you dread or going home to somebody who makes you anything less than happy. Don't doubt yourself, underestimate your abilities, your intuition or those butterflies in the stomach moments because those are the ones that count, those are the ones that are REAL!
Close your eyes, take a deep breath and take a chance... there isn't anything or anybody who isn't worth at least one! In the process though, don't forget about THE most important person; yourself.
More often than not, the things in life that are worth it are the hardest things to get... So, now what? Stop reading these silly notes here online. Leave the past in the past, it cannot be rewritten.
Start with a new canvas, write YOUR story... Find YOUR happily ever after. And when you do? Fight for it!
