I have waited months for June 16 to roll around to venture to the woodlands and be barefoot and bra-less. Well maybe just bra-less, but I have experienced some of the strangest, funniest and craziest memories from this past weekend and I am going to share some memories, tricks and tips on what to take from Firefly and what to do when you venture into the woodlands.
- Be Prepared
Paying for showers and over priced food for four days is not ideal for most college kids, we are all on a budget. So a couple days before hand we headed to the store to stock up on water, breakfast food and water...12 gallons of it !! like I said we were not paying to shower. We were more than prepared even on the rainy first day… Rain boots were a must and I am happy I packed them. Bring a first aid kit for the blisters and other things that you might run into.
2. Do not Coachella your Outfits
Yes going to music festivals brings out the hippie in everyone especially with festival style booming everywhere, but we are in a dusty muddy sweaty hot festival ground for around 12 hours a day, you are going to get stuck in mosh pits and crowd surfers are going to come down on or near you. You do not want to ruin the $100 shirt you bought at free people. Yes, dress cute, embrace your style and have fun with it. A girl at my favorite DJ was dressed in high heeled booties with a floppy hat and a shirt that probably cost more than my phone bill… well she got stuck in a mosh pit, lost her hat and all the bead work on her shirt was ruined by the end of the set. Embrace your style but remember anything can happen.
3. Do Anything and Everything you Never Thought you Would do
I never thought that I would crowd surf during Ellie Goulding, cry during Florence and the Machine and meeting my favorite Djs. Waiting in the sun to be front row for my favorite artist and becoming closer to your friends and people you meet along the way. It starts to become a lifestyle, you wake up at 8 am to wash your hair under a hose before a line forms, you will rush to the hub for your favorite gourmet grilled cheese sandwich and the walk to the festival. It starts to become a routine and you camping neighbors start to become your friends. Which makes it all super bittersweet when you are packing up to go home.
When it’s over after you shower and get to sit down for five minutes you realize how amazing everything has been over the past four days of craziness and laying in a hammocks while eating gourmet food that will cost a million dollars. In the end it was worth all the blisters, sun bun and money. I promise it will be an experience of a lifetime and I promise you will set the count down till next year as soon as you leave.
