Instagram is one of the top social media apps and has a lot of people worldwide completely hooked. And for good reason: everyone gets to show off the good part of their life and hide everything else. People post, edit and filter their life away in an attempt to make themselves seem perfect. It is the place to present yourself as totally trendy and candid without trying.
Finsta is a made up combination of the words fake and Insta(gram). Put them together, abbreviate Instagram to Insta, and boom FINSTA has been born and it’s a concept that people are OBSESSED with. Finsta’s are the complete opposite of a real Instagram account, and have become one the biggest booming trends right now. Everyone wants one or has one, and if you don’t you probably follow some. Urban dictionary describes a finsta as, “an account used for people to post pictures that are funny or embarrassing. Usually, they are created with clever usernames and poke fun at yourself or your closest friends.”
BUT…. Let’s get real about this for a hot minute. A finsta is a place where you are actually being completely yourself. It’s more like your real-Insta (or Rinsta). No one hides behind filters or cares about the amount of likes they get or the number of followers that they have. It’s real and it's fun. Basically, finsta’s are the social media outlet where you can completely express yourself freely. They’re raw pure and used to poke fun at yourself or to publicly (well, whoever you allow to follow the account) embarrass your best friends.
Rinsta’s are actually more like your fake-Insta account. People pose certain ways to get the absolute best angle and wait until it's *posting hour* to get optimal likes. It’s one big, giant, fake, phony mess that has become a religion to girls and guys all over the world. Nothing about this account is actually real, it’s just where people go to try to look their best and #unfiltered all the time.
No one has a permanent sunny glow following them at all times and it’s time to cut the sh*t. It’s time to stop letting social media dictate so much of our lives. Be comfortable with yourself and confident enough to say, “Heck yeah I posted at 1 pm, and yeah I only got a third of the likes that I usually get but whatever because it’s a photo of me laughing with my absolute best friends!!” Stop getting so caught up in the demands of likes, like-to-follower-ratios, and filers. It's crazy people! Post the picture because YOU like it not to appeal to other people.
