I’ve been lucky enough in college to meet some incredible people and gain over 200 sisters who have become like family to me. I also consider myself incredibly lucky because I found “my person.”
For those you who don’t know what I’m talking about, on an episode of "Grey’s Anatomy," Meredith Grey refers to her best friend, Cristina Yang as her “person.” This means the person who is not only your best friend, but the person you can trust with anything and everything—or like Meredith Grey explains, “If I murdered someone, she’s the person I’d call to help me drag the corpse across the living room floor.” If you’re lucky enough to find “your person,” you know exactly how necessary they are to your college existence.
They are the person who knows you almost better than you know yourself. They know to text you whenever they see that guy you dated with another girl. They know exactly what food to bring you when you’ve been having a bad day. They will pick you up from class when it’s too cold to walk home and have your favorite song blasting through the speakers whenever you open their door. They will skip class with you whenever you feel the weather is just too nice to sit inside all day. They will embarrass themselves in front of other people with you because it’s not that embarrassing when you’re together. They will sit through the Taco Bell drive thru line with you even after just ten minutes before you had said you were going on a diet.
You can sit in the same room as them for multiple hours not saying a word and it’s not weird at all. They are the person who makes car rides to the grocery store fun because it turns into a dance battle/sing-off. You must have their approval of any guy you date before you date them. They are the person who is not afraid to tell you that you’ve made a bad decision, but they are also the one who makes it right along side you so you aren’t alone. Whatever clothes they own are technically your clothes too. Their accomplishments and achievements become your accomplishments and achievements. You can go out with other people, but chances are you’re texting each other “I miss you.
Everyone basically knows you come as a package deal. They are the person that you can’t get tired of, no matter how much time you spend together. They are the person who has your back regardless of if you’re right. “Your person” accepts you just the way you are—even when you tell jokes that are not even slightly funny. You wouldn’t be Meredith Grey without your Cristina Yang.
